What Is Qurbani?
Qurbani, also known as Eid al-Adha or Bakra Eid, refers to the annual Islamic practice of sacrifice during Hajj and on Eid ul Adha. In Qurbani, ten rams/lambs/goats and cows/bulls are sacrificed for each Muslim family.
Qurbani involves animals, which plays a key role in Qurbani; its significance is emphasized by the fact that urban involves sacrificing an animal on behalf of all family members if they are adults and financially capable of doing so- and this act of Qurbani is done as it’s mentioned in Quran “Innamal qurbiyan,” meaning: you should sacrifice for yourself not someone else (only those who can afford or have enough money).
Animals play a vital part in Qurbani because it was also carried out during the time of Prophet Ibrahim (PBUH), and since then, Qurbani has been performed from generation to generation.
