Introduction to GAMSAT.
Becoming a professional in the medical and health fields is not an easy task. An undergraduate degree in sciences is a hurdle on its own but GAMSAT is also a fearsome test. If you are a medical student, you must be aware of the concept of what GAMSAT is. Graduate Medical School Admissions Test is a compulsory test for students who will be continuing higher studies after undergraduate level in medical or health fields. Before the thought pops up in your head, yes the test is compulsory for selection in any postgraduate university.
Why is GAMSAT taken?
GAMSAT is taken by the Australian Council of Education and Research to make the selection process easier. The test determines whether a student is compatible and skilled enough to bear the responsibility of master’s and Ph.D. level education in the science fields. Tertiary education in medical and health fields is strenuous and arduous. Only selective students can carry this responsibility patiently. The GAMSAT filters out students so only the highly competitive, skilled, patient, and extremely gifted students are selected.
For this purpose, the GAMSAT is a challenging test.
When and where is GAMSAT held?
GAMSAT is held twice a year in two sittings. The first sitting is in March and the second is in September every year. This test is taken in Australia, the United Kingdom, and Ireland. Some other centers are in New Zealand, Washington D.C, and Singapore. You are allotted the nearest test center to you for examination when you apply for the test.
How do I prepare smartly for GAMSAT?
GAMSAT is a difficult test to pass and all the candidates who have attempted the test can testify to that. The reputation of the test intimidates students before they even think of applying for the test. The first thing you need to do when you start preparing for the test is to remember the GAMSAT will be as hard as you make it out to be. The more you think the test is impossible to pass, the harder it will be for you to actually pass.
Once you’ve assured yourself of that, move on to these for GAMSAT Prep for you.
1. Divide syllabus.
Divide what you wish to study in the number of days you have left until the GAMSAT.
2. Make a schedule.
Now that you have divided the syllabus per day, make a schedule and try to add at least two to three study hours specifically for the GAMSAT.
3. Learn time management.
Time management is the key to success. Divide your time section-wise and while dividing, make sure you are saving some time for rechecking as well.
4. Start studying early.
Try to start studying 2 months before the test is held to cover a good amount of the syllabus.
5. Study smarter, not harder.
The more areas you try to cover the harder it will be to cover and to remember at the time of the test. Hence, study smarter.
6. Practice makes a man perfect.
Always attempt past papers and sample papers. The practice really helps you prepare mentally for the test.
Lastly, keep in mind that most students clear the test in second or third tries so do not be disheartened if you are unable to succeed in your first time. You are not alone!
