What would be less intimidating than surfing? If you are physically fit and do exercise you will be surfing for great fun. However, this fun comes at a cost as you have to prepare yourself to position on a board and catch the waves in open water.

If you are a person who wants to enjoy charging the big waves in the water, then it is safe to say you are mentally prepared to grab your board and hit the beach. Before you go surfing, you need to ensure your muscles and joints are ready for a day of surfing.

Looking for fun surfing, here are some ways for you to get prepared:

  1. Get a right gear

When going out surfing for the first time make sure you have the right surfboard for yourself. Usually, people rent a board when doing it for the first time as surfboards can cost you 500$. If you don’t find any company or surfboard shop for rental boards, you can borrow them from your friend or instructor.

The larger the board will be, the easier it will be for you to balance it. Also, ensure the board you are renting is waxed up. In case, you get an unwaxed board it will become difficult for you to slick in the water.

If you are living in New Zealand, find an option to buy yourself a soft-top board with a traction pad from surf shops in Auckland, so, you will be comfortable while sitting and standing on a board.

  1. Wear a tight-fitting swimwear

Wearing loose-fitting clothes actually can ruin your surfing experience in case you are hit by a strong wave to fall in the water, as they can fly off or become loose.

You will find professional surfers wearing tight wetsuits as it keeps them warm in the cold water. Make sure you also buy yourself a tight-fitted wetsuit or tight set of boardshorts to keep them on your body while in water.

  1. Rehearsal swimming skills

To keep yourself safe in the water it is also important for you to practice your swimming skills regularly before surfing. If due for any reason your leg leash breaks you should know how to swim in the water to get back on the board.

If you don’t know swimming, hire a professional trainer to learn and practice swimming in different freestyle strokes. You can also practice is by yourself in a poll without taking breaks in 3-4 laps.

  1. Ask the best spot

You are going to surf for the first time and you are familiar that every beach is different. Nobody will know better about the waves and water than the locals and nearby surf shop owners.

Before starting your practice on a beach take time and ask the locals about the best spots for the beginners to practice. They will point you to the spot where the waves will be calm and stable so you will learn the art better.
